Our Canine and Feline Qualifications

Our qualifications are designed to meet the needs of the Canine and Feline sector and we have been approved to award qualifications from Level 2 to Level 5. We are currently in the process of developing NEW qualifications from a 30 day iPET Network Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management to short 1 and 2 day Dog Walking, Pet Sitting and Canine Emergency First Aid qualifications, with many more in development.

When we have created an new qualification, the qualification needs to be approved and uploaded to Ofqual's register of approved qualifications https://register.ofqual.gov.uk/. Once approved all of our Training Providers will be able to deliver the qualification with the support, quality assurance processes and resources from iPET Network.

Our approved Training Providers tailor their teaching and delivery to cater for novices, to those seeking a career at the highest standard in a lucrative industry.

The course is delivered over 30 days practical training with additional theory work to be completed at home.

We are proud to have developed this NEW qualification in the canine and feline sector. We are going through the process for the qualification to be regulated by Ofqual. Over the period of 30 days in one of our Training Providers, candidates will groom a minimum of 10 different breeds covering a minimum of 20 grooms but often many more.  There are no pre-requisites to starting the course, meaning you can join at level 3 without having completed a lower level (level 2) course first which can be a huge cost saving to students.

Students will be trained in practical skills such as bathing, scissoring, clippering, nail trimming, ear plucking and the qualification course includes hand-stripping.

Units (awaiting recognition) included within this qualification are:

301: Health and Safety in a Dog Grooming Environment

302: Promote the Welfare of Dogs conforming with Relevant Legislation

303: Customer Care and Managing Complaints

304: Assess and Plan Dog Grooming Styles and Maintenance of Equipment

305: Health Checking, Handling and Canine Behaviour

306: Prepare, Style and Finish a range of Dog Breeds

307: Canine Emergency First Aid

308: Planning the Operation of a Small Canine Business

Uniquely, students are continually assessed via practical demonstration and coursework. You don’t have to sit an exam in order to achieve the qualification. This holistic approach has been welcomed by students internationally. iPET Network wants to take the pressure out of adult learning and this approach appeals to a wide range of students. We are striving to improve industry standards by ensuring students walk out fully qualified, confident and competent.

The Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management will demonstrate to an employer or the general public that you have the necessary technical skills and knowledge to successfully groom a range of dog breeds. This will be a formal, regulated, nationally recognised qualification that will remain relevant throughout your career and can only be achieved by reaching the required skill level. It has been designed specifically for those looking to become professional dog groomers or those who already groom dogs (as a hobby or career) but do not currently hold a nationally recognised qualification. These additional elements are unique to our course syllabus making the qualification a more rounded and robust qualification.

A fast-track option is also available for experienced groomers seeking a formal qualification to confirm their skill level or those who have undertaken other qualifications but see the benefit in gaining the iPET Network seal of approval. Please contact us for further details.

COMING SOON - Hand stripping involves pulling out the dead outer coat (particularly popular in wired-haired breeds in pet grooming salons). The skill is performed by hand rather than cutting the hair with clippers or scissors. This allows a new coat to grow in, revealing a soft undercoat and makes a beautiful finish. It does not hurt the dog when performed correctly.

Many groomers do not offer this service however, as it is time-consuming and very labour intensive. This 1 day qualification gives students hands on skills practice of hand stripping, perfect for an owner wishing to hand strip their own dog correctly or a student looking to gain a strong basis of the skills needed to hand strip dogs as part of a career in dog grooming.
