Learner Induction

Welcome to iPET Network

Thank you for choosing an iPET Network qualification with one of our approved Centres. Your Centre has chosen to compile your work on iPET Network’s online E-portfolio system. This system allows you to complete your work online, answer the questions, download support materials and upload evidence to complete your qualification.

Using the iPET Network E-Portfolio

Please watch the induction video on how to use and get the best out of your E-portfolio.

You can also download the iPET Network E-Portfolio Learner Guide 2024, which will help you when you are working on your E-portfolio.

Top tip – please make sure you save your work. The e-portfolio has an idle time of 40 minutes. If you do not save your work, then there is a chance it could be lost.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

How does my qualification get quality assured?

Our qualifications come with a tight quality assurance process, this ensures the quality of the qualifications is maintained in the industry and you get the best possible delivery of the qualification. Using the E-Portfolio system ensures transparency from you to your Assessor, to the Internal Quality Assurer and to the External Quality Assurer. All parts of the quality assurance process need to take place before your certificate is released. The process is detailed in the image adjacent.

Qualification Duration of Registration

All iPET Network qualifications have a maximum qualification duration of registration. This is listed in the Qualification Specification for the individual qualification, available on our website.

If you fail to complete your qualification within this timeframe (this includes any theory, practical, assessor marking and quality assurance), a re-registration fee will be required if you wish to have extra time to complete your qualification.

Extension to registration may be obtained with written permission under specific extenuating circumstances.

Please contact your Centre in the first instance for guidance on your timelines.

However, the time period for delivery and completion of the qualification is agreed upon between the Centre and the Candidate. This is a separate contractual agreement which iPET Network is not responsible for including any associated costs.

The amount of time on your units on the e-portfolio may not necessarily coincide with your qualification expiry date.

KEY TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Terms you might see or hear during your qualification

Assessor – A person who undertakes marking or the review of marking. This involves using a particular set of criteria to make judgements as to the level of attainment a Learner has demonstrated in an assessment.

Centre – An organisation undertaking the delivery of an assessment (and potentially other activities) to Learners on behalf of an awarding organisation. Centres are typically educational institutions, training providers, or employers.

Internal Quality Assurance – seeks to ensure that assessment activities have been conducted in a consistent, safe and fair manner.

Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) – carries out internal quality assurance activities and monitors the activities of assessors to ensure that assessments are conducted in a consistent, safe and fair manner.

External Quality Assurance – seeks to ensure that assessment and internal quality assurance activities (IQA) have been conducted in a consistent, safe and fair manner.

External Quality Assurer (EQA) – An external quality assurer (EQA) carries out external quality assurance
activities.

Total Qualification Time (TQT) – defined as the number of Guided Learning Hours (GLH) plus the time taken by the Learner for independent, unsupervised study. Individual Learners’ requirements and individual teaching styles mean there will be variation in the actual time taken to complete a qualification.

Guided Learning Hours (GLH) – defined by the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act, 2009 as the number of hours the Learner spends:
• Being taught or given instruction by a lecturer, tutor, supervisor or other appropriate provider of education or training, or
• Otherwise participating in education or training under the immediate guidance or supervision of such a person.
GLH does not include time spent on unsupervised preparation or study, whether at home or otherwise.

Communication and Feedback

Communication and feedback between you and your Cente is vital to ensure you get the most out of your qualification journey. Speak openly and honestly to your Centre and don’t be afraid to ask for support, help or clarification on any areas of your learning journey. Ensure you speak to your Centre at the time of any challenges or concerns as these can be resolved at that time. Your Centre is there to help!

At the end of your qualification we ask that the Candidate Feedback Form is completed. This is important as your feedback helps the Centre improve their services and teaching techniques. Your feedback also helps iPET Network develop its qualifications for future candidates, identify areas of improvement with the systems and able to offer additional support/training to the Centre.

Important Notice on Plagiarism

As part of your qualification, you may be required to complete theory work. This work must be entirely your own and not copied directly from any source, such as the internet, books, or another candidate’s work.

Plagiarism is defined as “presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without proper acknowledgement”.

This applies to all published and unpublished material, whether in printed or electronic form.

Your Assessor will check for plagiarism, and if any is identified, you will be required to resubmit your work.

Please note that plagiarism is considered a serious form of academic misconduct and is taken very seriously by iPET Network.
