OUR HISTORY
iPET Network is an Ofqual Regulated Awarding Organisation specialising in Animal Care and Veterinary Science qualifications.
Founded by Fern Gresty and Sarah Mackay, two passionate professionals from the pet care and dog grooming industry, iPET Network was created to raise the standard of education, accessibility, and quality across the UK pet sector.

How It All Began
In 2015, while working together at Four Paws Groom School, Fern and Sarah combined their expertise to improve professional standards within the grooming and animal care industry. Their shared vision led to the official launch of iPET Network in 2018.
An Awarding Organisation built for people, for pets, for the future.
“Two heads are better than one, not because either is infallible, but because they are unlikely to go wrong in the same direction.”

Meet The Founders

Fern Gresty (on the left in picture) is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of iPET Network, an Ofqual-recognised Awarding Organisation specialising in Animal Care and Veterinary Science qualifications. With nearly 20 years of experience in animal care and business leadership, Fern has helped shape professional standards and career pathways for thousands of learners and training providers across the UK.
From Wet Noses to Industry Leadership: The Story Behind Fern Gresty’s role in iPET Network
Like many journeys in the animal care sector, mine started with a wet nose, a wagging tail, and a lifelong love of animals.
Growing up on a farm, I was fortunate to be surrounded by animals every day. Dogs were a constant part of family life, and from an early age I developed a deep appreciation for animal welfare, behaviour, and care. Horses were a strong passion too and these 2 species moulded my formative years, teaching me responsibility and diligence in all I do. I originally planned to become a veterinary professional, working hard throughout school and college with my sights set on university. However, when the time came, I chose a different path and began a successful career in sales and marketing with a local newspaper.
Although I enjoyed the media world, my passion for dogs never faded. That passion was strengthened when I welcomed Fable, my beloved Rottweiler, into my life. More than a pet, she was my companion, inspiration, and the driving force behind a career change that would shape my future.
In July 2009, I founded Cheshire’s first licensed dog daycare centre, creating a business that allowed me to combine my entrepreneurial ambitions with my commitment to animal welfare. As demand for professional pet care services grew, I expanded the business and completed my dog grooming training, introducing grooming services to what would become the Four Paws Group.
As the business developed, I quickly recognised a challenge facing the industry: finding highly skilled dog groomers trained to the standards pet owners expected. Determined to help raise standards, I collaborated with my former grooming tutor to establish Four Paws Groom School, delivering professional dog grooming training designed to prepare learners for successful careers within the grooming industry.
From the beginning, our mission was simple: provide practical, hands-on dog grooming education that equips students with the skills, confidence, and knowledge required to thrive in a professional salon environment. Our training covered a wide range of grooming techniques, breed-standard styling, commercial grooming, pet trims, canine welfare, and customer care, ensuring graduates were ready to meet the needs of both dogs and their owners. Dog grooming was an unregulated industry (and remains so) but I always believed in the power of education and would have liked all groomers to gain formal qualification. However, there was a flaw. At the time just 1 dog grooming qualification existed on the national framework and its structure made it inaccessible to those we were training. It required a number of breed standard dogs that we just didn’t have access to in the numbers required in rural Cheshire. This meant that highly talented, skilled dog groomers were unable to gain the recognition deserved.
In 2016, Sarah Mackay joined the Four Paws Groom School team, and we became business partners the following year. Together, we shared a vision to improve the quality and accessibility of dog grooming qualifications across the UK. This led us to develop accredited training programmes and ultimately write the Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming (which would go on to become AIM Qualifications), an Ofqual-regulated qualification recognised throughout the industry.
As demand for quality animal care qualifications increased, we began supporting training providers across the UK through a growing network of satellite training centres operating under the iPET Network brand. By sharing our expertise, quality assurance processes, and educational resources, we helped training providers deliver consistent, high-quality learning experiences to aspiring dog groomers nationwide.
By 2019, it became clear that the animal care industry needed an awarding organisation dedicated specifically to the sector. We wanted greater flexibility to develop qualifications that truly reflected employer needs, industry standards, and evolving animal welfare requirements. Acknowledging modern trends (the rise of the Cockapoo), new equipment and best practice.
That vision became reality in February 2020 when iPET Network achieved Ofqual recognition as an Awarding Organisation.
Today, iPET Network is one of the UK’s leading specialist Awarding Organisations for the Animal Care and Veterinary Science sector. Our flagship qualification, the iPET Network Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management, has become one of the most recognised dog grooming qualifications in the UK, supporting learners seeking careers in professional dog grooming, salon management, and self-employment.
Since gaining recognition, iPET Network has continued to develop innovative qualifications that support learners, employers, colleges, independent training providers, and industry professionals. Our portfolio now spans a wide range of animal care, veterinary science, canine welfare, pet services, and specialist animal industry qualifications, all designed to improve standards, enhance professional development, and promote exceptional animal welfare.
Alongside my work with iPET Network, I have remained actively involved in advancing standards across the grooming profession. Four Paws Groom School is a member of the British Isles Grooming Association (BIGA), and I was honoured to serve as a Director between 2017 and 2020, helping support initiatives focused on education, best practice, and raising awareness of the importance of professional grooming in safeguarding canine welfare. In 2023-2024 iPET Network went on to sponsor Groom Team England and help push UK dog grooming further into the global spotlight.
Over the years, our family of businesses expanded to include multiple animal care services across the North West of England, employing a dedicated team of more than 40 professionals. Through dog daycare, boarding, grooming, pet transport, and education, we have gained invaluable insight into the opportunities and challenges facing the animal care industry. This real-world experience continues to shape the qualifications and training programmes developed by iPET Network today. As iPET Network has grown and demands on our time increased, we have sought to streamline our business structure with businesses owned by Sarah Mackay and Fern Gresty all falling under the Fizz Star Group Ltd. Brands include iPET Network, Four Paws Groom School, The Dog Grooming Hub and Pet Training Courses.
As pet ownership continues to grow across the UK, so does the need for qualified animal care professionals. Pet owners rightly expect the highest standards of care from those entrusted with their animals. Our commitment is to ensure learners gain not only industry-recognised qualifications but also the practical skills, professionalism, customer service expertise, and animal welfare knowledge required to excel in their chosen careers. We are extremely proud to have developed the first Canine First Aid qualification on the national framework with others following, a sure sign that welfare standards are improving across the UK.
iPET Network is now a multi award winning business that has attracted large scale corporate groups as well as small one man bands to choose our services.

From Childhood Dog Lover to Awarding Organisation Director: The Story Behind Sarah Mackay’s Role in iPET Network
Like many people working within the animal care sector, my story begins with a simple but enduring love of dogs.
My farther was in the Army so we had every every type of pet other than a dog but that all changed when I was 9 and this when it all started! From this age, dogs were a constant part of my life. I didn’t have pictures of Take That on my walls I have pictures of dogs!. Whether spending time with family pets, learning about their care, or simply seeking out every opportunity to be around animals, I always knew that dogs would remain an important part of my future. Although my career initially took me into business management, quality assurance, and people development, that passion for animals never disappeared.
Throughout my professional career, I developed extensive experience across a variety of operational and leadership roles. Working as an Executive Personal Assistant gave me a strong foundation in organisation, communication, strategic planning, and stakeholder management. Supporting senior leaders and managing complex business operations taught me the importance of attention to detail, professionalism, and maintaining high standards skills that would later prove invaluable within the regulated education sector.
As my career progressed, I moved into Human Resources and people management roles, developing expertise in recruitment, employee engagement, performance management, investors in people, policy development, and organisational growth. Working closely with teams across different sectors allowed me to gain a deep understanding of how effective leadership, strong governance, and investment in people can drive organisational success.
My passion for continuous improvement naturally led me into quality assurance and compliance-focused roles. As a Quality Manager, I became responsible for developing and maintaining ISO 9001, 18001 and 140101 standards, quality systems, monitoring performance, implementing improvement strategies, managing audits, and ensuring organisations met regulatory and operational requirements. These experiences provided me with a comprehensive understanding of quality frameworks, risk management, governance, and compliance knowledge that would become fundamental to the future success of iPET Network.
Despite building a successful career in business operations and quality management, my love of dogs remained ever present and I continued my studies along side but commercial roles. I had always admired the dedication of professionals working within the animal care sector and recognised the important role education plays in protecting animal welfare and supporting career development.
In 2016, I joined Four Paws Groom School, bringing my expertise in quality management, compliance, business systems, and organisational development to the growing business. Working alongside Fern Gresty, I quickly became involved in developing educational programmes, quality assurance processes, and learner support systems designed to improve standards within dog grooming education.
It soon became clear that we shared a common vision: to improve accessibility, consistency, and quality within animal care qualifications. In 2017, we became business partners and began working together to create qualifications and training programmes that better reflected the needs of learners, employers, and the wider industry.
Together, we helped develop and support regulated dog grooming qualifications that enabled aspiring groomers to gain nationally recognised credentials whilst developing practical skills relevant to modern salon environments. Through our work with other awarding organisations and training providers across the UK, we gained first-hand insight into the challenges facing education providers and recognised the need for greater flexibility and innovation within qualification development.
As our network expanded, I took responsibility for many of the systems and processes that underpin quality delivery. My background in quality management and compliance proved invaluable in establishing robust quality assurance frameworks, centre approval processes, governance systems, assessment strategies, and regulatory controls that would support future growth.
In February 2020, that vision became a reality when iPET Network achieved Ofqual recognition as an Awarding Organisation.
Since recognition, I have played a key role in ensuring iPET Network maintains the highest standards of quality, compliance, and regulatory governance. Working closely with centres, employers, learners, and industry stakeholders, I help oversee the development and delivery of qualifications designed to support careers across Animal Care and Veterinary Science.
Today, iPET Network supports colleges, independent training providers, employers, and learners throughout the UK, delivering qualifications that promote professional competence, animal welfare, and industry best practice. Behind every qualification sits a robust quality framework designed to ensure fairness, consistency, validity, and reliability for learners and centres alike.
Alongside my work within iPET Network, I remain passionate about supporting education providers and helping organisations build effective quality systems that enable learners to achieve their potential. Whether working on qualification development, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, governance, or organisational strategy, my focus has always been on creating opportunities for people to succeed whilst maintaining the highest possible standards. You will still see me grooming in our salons when the call to help out comes in or do demo’s for our students, this where we are different we are still heavily involved in the sector.
As iPET Network has grown, so too has our wider family of businesses under Fizz Star Group Ltd, including Four Paws Groom School, The Dog Grooming Hub, Pet Training Courses, and iPET Network. Together, these organisations continue to support learners, businesses, and professionals across the animal care sector through education, training, and professional development.
The animal care industry continues to evolve, and with that comes an increasing responsibility to ensure those working with animals are properly trained, qualified, and supported. Through iPET Network, I am proud to play a part in developing qualifications that not only meet regulatory requirements but genuinely contribute to raising standards, improving professional practice, and promoting positive animal welfare outcomes across the UK.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and three dogs (Benji, Ziggy & Roddy). The activities each week keep me busy from scent detection, agility and obedience. They continue to remind me why improving standards within animal care education is so important. What began as a childhood love of dogs has evolved into a career dedicated to quality, education, and helping others build successful futures within the animal care sector.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my journey. Through iPET Network, I remain committed to supporting learners, centres, employers, and industry professionals whilst helping to shape a stronger future for Animal Care and Veterinary Science education across the UK.
