Before you start hand stripping, you will want to card out some of the undercoat which will allow the harsh coat to lay flat.
Carding is removing the undercoat before hand stripping to encourage healthy new coat growth. By Carding the coat, it allows the skin to breathe and some new coat to grow. The carding knife is always pulled in the same direction that the coat grows.
