Why a Level 5 qualification matters

Why a Level 5 qualification matters

As the animal behaviour and training sector continues to professionalise, one gap has become increasingly clear: a meaningful bridge between foundation-level learning and advanced clinical practice.

That gap is where the Level 5 qualification sits.

The qualification has been developed by iPET Network and the DoGenius Institute to support practitioners who want to move beyond introductory knowledge and into deeper applied understanding, critical thinking and professional decision making, while remaining firmly aligned with recognised ABTC ABT role standard and ethical frameworks.

“A strong Level 5 allows practitioners to consolidate knowledge, apply it with confidence, and develop the reflective and decision-making skills expected at higher levels of professional practice,” saysDr Teresa Tyler, Director of the DoGenius Institute.

This programme has been co-developed with a clear focus on:

  • progression that makes sense for learners and the sector
  • alignment with ABTC ABT role expectations
  • ethical, evidence-informed practice
  • clear scope and professional boundaries

Once complete, the Level 5 qualification will be submitted through the ABTC Programme Recognition Committee (PRC) process before any launch or delivery.

“Proper mapping, scrutiny and quality assurance matter. Going through PRC recognition before launch is essential to maintaining trust and integrity in the profession,” Teresa adds.
