This qualification the iPET Network Level 2 Award in Creating a Dog-friendly Workplace 610/1433/3 will be withdrawn from the Register of Regulated Qualifications and will no longer continue to be offered to new Candidates from 24/07/2024. The last certificate end date is 24/07/2025. the qualification does not have a replacement.

Studies have shown that bringing your dog to work can reduce stress and generally make the workplace more enjoyable. More and more employers are making the decision to open their doors to employees’ dogs, utilising these benefits as well as supporting workers with day care for their dogs. 

However, bringing dogs to work can present a series of challenges for the senior management team in managing dog welfare and behaviour, managing physical resources, health and safety and concerns from some team members. 

The iPET Network Level 2 Award in Creating a Dog-friendly Workplace has been developed to meet the needs of employers, business owners or senior managers wishing to acquire the necessary knowledge and understanding to open their workplace up to employees’ dogs. The qualification provides the underpinning knowledge of requirements, legislation, insurance and policies enabling Candidates to get started as dog-friendly employers from day one. In addition, the qualification provides Candidates with a ‘Dog-friendly People and Places’ logo that can be used on all marketing materials, advertising your status as a dog-friendly employer. 

No prior canine-related experience or qualifications are required to access this qualification. 

Candidates who complete this qualification will be able to:

• Recognise why employees may want or need to bring their dog to work and the impact this can have on the business

• Identify what will be required in terms of legislation compliance, insurance, modifying the physical environment, ensuring welfare and health and safety standards are met, prior to admitting dogs to the workplace

• Assess levels of risks involved in having dogs at work

• Understand the application and approval process for bringing dogs to work

• Recognise ways of managing and resolving employee concerns about dogs at work
